Objective:  I can review the writing I have done throughout the year/semester and save it to reflect on my writing journey as a senior.  Then, I can select my final project for the semester and be prepared to start working on it,
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your Chromebook and open your Semester 2 Writing Option
    • Review the comments and rubric and complete your final reflection.  Hit turn in.
    • Upload your Semester 2 Writing to Class of 2019 LA11 Spring Semester Writing.
  • Review the Final Option and Rubric.  Take your time to click through and select for your final 10%.
  • Exit Task:  Tell me which option you have selected for your first Daily Completion Points.

Objective:  I can initiate and participate effectively in a gallery walk of others ideas about Of Mice and Men to build on my own ideas and express my enduring understanding of the novel  clearly and persuasively (SL1).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  If not complete, sit with your group and take 15 min. at most to put on the finishing touches.  If complete, hang your poster and share your DW with your group.
    • DW:  What did you think of the end of the book?
  • Review directions for the Gallery Walk and complete the before walk response.
    • Take 15-20 min. to complete the Gallery Walk chart
  • Review the steps for Getting to Theme and complete your own thoroughly and thoughtfully.  
  • Exit Task:  Turn in your Gallery Walk and Lens Questions to complete the unit!
  • Once you are finished with the Gallery Walk, you may continue work on your Independent Reading contract which is due June 1.

Objective:  I can determine two or more themes or central ideas of a text through analyzing their development over the course of the text utilizing either the New Historicism or Formalism Lens, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account (RL2).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your copy of Of Mice and Men, lens questions, and sit with your group.
    • DW:  Why do you think Steinbeck uses so much animal imagery in Of Mice and Men?
  • Review the lens questions you have left so you know what you are looking for as you read.  Remember this functions as your reading test, so be sure to include quotations and page numbers in your answers to show a thorough and thoughtful reading.
    • Follow along to Audible reading Ch. 24-26 (approx. 23 min.) and answer 2 lens questions.
    • Have out your poster rough draft in case any quotes come up!
  • Add to your poster by either answering any questions you can OR adding illustrations.  
    • Use the claim, cite, clarify model for your responses on the posters. Divide number of responses necessary evenly among your group members.
Exit Task:  Show me your progress on your poster for feedback as you are working--you have today and tomorrow to finish!

Objective:  I can analyze multiple interpretations of Of Mice and Men evaluating how each version interprets the text through viewing and reading through the lenses of New Historicism or Formalism (RL7).
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Your lens questions are your "movie ticket."
    • Go over the directions for top hat comparison of the book to the movie.  You will be looking at how your lens is portrayed comparatively as well as gleaning more information for your poster.  
    • Continue Of Mice and Men the film from where we left off and compare the film version to the book version.
      • Make comparison in your top hat chart as you watch.
  • After viewing, make additions to your poster with your group.  
  • Exit Task:  You will have a little time tomorrow to work on your poster, but it should be near completion and ready for gallery walk!

  • Review the Activity One directions for Formalism (p. 17) and New Historicism (p. 25) from the Prestwick House Sample and in your groups go back through today’s reading to add to rough draft of poster.
  • Add to your poster by either answering any questions you can OR adding illustrations.  
  • ​Review the Rubric for the poster
    • Use the claim, cite, clarify model for your responses on the posters. Divide number of responses necessary evenly among your group members.
    • You will also need a relevant images which you may draw or print out depending on the artistic capabilities of your group.

Objective:  I can determine two or more themes or central ideas of a text through analyzing their development over the course of the text utilizing either the New Historicism or Formalism Lens, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account (RL2).
Agenda:

  • Entry Task:  Get out your copy of Of Mice and Men, lens questions, and sit with your group you selected yesterday.
    • DW:  What should you be looking for in your reading today for your group?  Get out one piece of paper for a rough draft--if you come across any relevant quotes, copy them down on this shared paper.
  • Review the lens questions you have left so you know what you are looking for as you read.  Remember this functions as your reading test, so be sure to include quotations and page numbers in your answers to show a thorough and thoughtful reading.
    • Follow along to Audible reading Ch. 6-9 (approx. 34 min.) and answer 2 lens questions.
  • Review the Activity One directions for Formalism (p. 17) and New Historicism (p. 25) from the Prestwick House Sample and in your groups go back through our reading from yesterday to see if there was anything missed as well as discuss anything that came up today.
  • Begin your poster by giving it a title and deciding where you will include the answers to each question/quotations.
    • You will use the claim, cite, clarify model for your responses on the posters. Divide number of responses necessary evenly among your group members.
    • You will also need a relevant images which you may draw or print out depending on the artistic capabilities of your group.
Exit Task:  Create a rough draft of your poster on the back of your quotation paper and show it to me before the bell rings.
