Objective:  I can be introduced to the lens of New Historicism through reading "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," and identify elements of it from the story.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get an Orange Lit. Book and sit at your desk with your notebook ready.
  • Cut and paste the definition of New Historicism into your notebook from the prezi and handout.
  • Take 5W notes on Ambrose Bierce from the information on p. 422.
  • Create a timeline with information from p. 378-379 and 382-386 (watch the crash course videos if you are absent) with at least 5 major events.  
  • Review the New Historicism Statements in the handout.
  • Follow along to "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" p. 424-430

Objective:  I can follow along with "The Man in the Water" by Roger Rosenblatt and answer use SOAPSE to show my understanding of how the character(s) behave like an Everyman.
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Get out notebook and copy title and author of story from objective.  Make note of the context from the prezi.
  • Listen and follow along to "The Man in the Water" by Roger Rosenblatt (6:28 min.)
  • With a small group, complete SOAPSE as assigned to your group
  • Be prepared to share your group's response for the class poster.
    • Reword the class poster to make it your own as each response is shared out.
  • Exit Task:  Of the characters from "And of Clay Are We Created" and "The Man in the Water" to whom do you relate the most?  How does this point to the idea of the Everyman?

Objective:  I can use SOAPSE to analyze the historical fiction piece "And of Clay Are We Created" read in our last class to have a deeper understanding of the characters and the Everyman.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Review your answers to the questions about "And of Clay Are We Created" by Isabelle Allende.
  • Review SOAPSE and create class poster. 
    • Copy the class poster as it is created in class.
  • Identify how one of the characters could be an Everyman and share your idea with a partner.
  • Exit Task:  What did SOAPSE help you do?  Where else could you use this technique in this class?  Where else could you use this technique outside of this class?

  • Entry Task:  Get our your notebook and copy the objective
  • Take notes as instructed in the prezi
  • With a partner, select a character from a popular film or tv show and explain how (s)he has the characteristics of an Everyman on the mini-poster provided.
  • Exit Task:  Post your mini-poster with a description and color illustration of the character you selected

Objective: I can define the different types of propaganda in my journal while Miss Frost presents the information and try to match the example mini-posters with the definitions provided.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task: Get out journals, glue, writing utensils, and lay out mini posters on your desk
  • View Prezi: Types of Propaganda
    • During Prezi: Write down the italicized words from each slide,
    • Make educated guesses about which poster goes with each type of propaganda
    • Share with a neighbor before the real poster is revealed
    • After Prezi: See how this fits into the time capsule project
  • Next class: We will finish Fahrenheit 451 and continue group work on our time capsules
