Objective: I can make revisions and additions to my first draft to show my improved writing skills by turning in a second draft.
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get a Chromebook and open Google Classroom/Tricks of the Trade
  • Review TOT @
  • Make revisions to your first draft--DO NOT RESOLVE COMMENTS
  • Write an additional paragraph/poem to show your continued learning.  
    • Remember you must reference at least 2 works studied in class as evidence
  • Exit Task:  "Add" your second draft to DRAFT 2 assignment BEFORE the bell rings.  0s will be added to the gradebook for drafts that are not turned in.

Objective:  I can find evidence of the lens of New Historicism from reading “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” and identify elements of it from the story as well as compare the story version to the music video version looking for setting, realistic detail, and tone.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out an Orange Lit. book and your New Historicism Evidence handout from yesterday; read the objective and be prepared to explain how you will meet it. 
    • Number yourself off to 6.
    • Work on the piece of evidence assigned to your group to help identify the New Historicism lens through the reading of “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.”
      • Make sure to CITE from the text.  
    • Each group will share their statements and write them up on the board.
    • Watch the video "Unlovable" by Babybird and follow along to the lyrics--how are the video and story different/similar?
    • Illustrate the setting, realistic detail, and the tone of the overall story on the back of their evidence handout.
  • Exit Task:  In the top left of your evidence chart, make sure you have your name and write a scale of 1-5 on how well you think you understand this new lens. I will collect this at the end of the period on your way out of the door.

Objective:  I can be introduced to the lens of New Historicism through reading "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," and identify elements of it from the story.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get an Orange Lit. Book and sit at your desk with your notebook ready.
    • Copy the definition of New Historicism into your notebook from the prezi and handout.
    • Take 5W notes on Ambrose Bierce from the information on p. 422.
    • Create a timeline with information from p. 378-379 and 382-386 (watch the crash course videos if you are absent) with at least 5 major events.  
    • Review the New Historicism Statements in the handout.
    • Follow along to "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" p. 424-430
  • Exit Task:  Identify one piece of New Historicism evidence from the reading.

Objective:  I can follow along with "The Man in the Water" by Roger Rosenblatt and answer use SOAPSE to show my understanding of how the character(s) behave like an Everyman.
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Get out notebook and copy title and author of story from objective.  Make note of the context from the prezi.  Review your Claim, Cite, Clarify from our last SOAPSE.
  • Listen and follow along to "The Man in the Water" by Roger Rosenblatt (6:28 min.)
  • With a small group, complete SOAPSE as assigned to your group
  • Be prepared to share your group's response for the class poster.
    • Reword the class poster to make it your own as each response is shared out.
  • Exit Task:  Of the characters from "And of Clay Are We Created" and "The Man in the Water" to whom do you relate the most?  How does this point to the idea of the Everyman?

​Objective:  I can read a book of my own choosing for enjoyment to improve my reading comprehension rate, vocabulary, and ability to empathize. 
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get your reading folder and book out; find someplace quiet to read
    • Story Time!  
  • 25 min. Silently read and enjoy your book
    • 15 min. Work on your contract and project, or complete Quizlet test
  • Exit Task: Make sure you put your file folder back in the drawer.  You should be at least 1/2 way through your book!

Objective:  I can use SOAPSE to analyze the historical fiction piece "And of Clay Are We Created" read in our last class to have a deeper understanding of the characters and the Everyman.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Review your answers to the questions about "And of Clay Are We Created" by Isabelle Allende.
  • Review SOAPSE directions
    • In groups, you will:
      • Identify which letter you have
      • Fill in the blanks
      • Clearly and largely write your finished section on the paper provided for other's to copy.  
  • Share your poster starting with Subject
    • Copy the class posters as they are presented in class
  • Exit Task:  Define Everyman and explain how one of the characters fits the definition in a Claim, Cite, Clarify: 3 sentence paragraph.

    • With a partner, select a character from a popular film or tv show and explain how (s)he has the characteristics of an Everyman on the mini-poster provided.
  • Exit Task:  Post your mini-poster with a description and color illustration of the character you selected
