Objective:  I can practice my test-taking skills to prepare to take the SAT or (re)take the SBA by using the skills we practiced as a class when reading "Femininity" and "About Men" and applying those skills to my independent reading of "A Woman's Beauty:  Put-Down or Power Source?"
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get a Chromebook and sign in to Google Classroom
    • Review your score for "A Woman's Beauty" and your written answer
      • If you have a mustache on your multiple-choice, you have been identified as a student who needs to earn a 3 on the SBA.  If not, consider this practice for the SAT.  Every student must "sit" the SBA; the other alternative to "testing out" is to earn the equivalent score on the SAT.
    • Open the CLASSROOM Beauty Performance Task in Google Classroom--you may take notes here or on a paper copy--your choice--you must turn in your notes on Friday with your essay.  Taking notes/annotating is a key test-taking skill.
    • Follow along in the Beauty prezi as we continue (you do not need to open this unless you are working from home)
    • Review Strong Thesis Statement directions and write your own.
    • How does Sandro Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" from the 15th century depict beauty?  What connection can be made to "A Woman's Beauty"?
    • Read Marge Piercy's "Barbie Doll" and Stop and Think:  To what extent are others responsible for women's beauty?
    • If time, read from The New York Times "The Meanings of the Selfie" by James Franco and answer the short answer questions.
    • Exit Task:  Put your notes someplace safe if you are not annotating in Google Classroom.  In the box is fine, remember to pick them up tomorrow.
