Objective:  I can determine two or more central ideas of The Great Depression and analyze how they interact and build on one another to provide a complex analysis of its connection to Of Mice and Men as well as an objective summary of the text (RI2).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  With your notebook and a pen(cil), stand by your puzzle poster.
    • Finish presentations if not completed
  • In your notebook, answer the following questions by going around and taking a closer look at each of the posters.
    • At the bottom of the handout, using the answers to your questions, summarize your understanding of The Great Depression and how John Steinbeck and thereby Of Mice and Men was influenced by it. Turn this paper in to your teacher, to be assessed for and given feedback on your understanding of the objective.
  • Now, practice using the New Historicism lens with the information you learned with an excerpt from Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse.
  • Exit Task:  Complete the extension activity on the back of the handout to show your most memorable learning from our work thus far.
