Objective:  I can analyze multiple interpretations of “Harrison Bergeron” to have a deeper understanding of a Dystopia (R.11-12.7).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task: A dystopia is a futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral, or totalitarian control.  Dystopias, through an exaggerated worst-case scenario, make a criticism about a current trend, societal norm, or political system.
    • Follow along to “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
    • In the handout provided, identify how the story is futuristic and imagined.  Cite specific lines from the text.
    • Illustrate an image from the story that shows oppressive societal controls
  • Exit Task:  What, do you believe is the criticism of a current trend?  Cite an example from the text and then give a real-world example.
