Objective:  I can write a narrative in the style of a gossip column or historical fiction about my famous figure in which I can accurately cite strong and thorough textual evidence using MLA format  and avoid plagiarism (W1; RI1).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your Chromebook and sit where you are comfortable to type but not talk.
    • DW:  No write today--turn and share what is one interesting fact you have learned about your famous figure with a neighbor that you did not know before we began our work?
  • Be prepared to share who your famous figure is and your interesting fact with the whole class if called on.
  • Work Hour: During our block schedule today, I will give you up to one hour of work time on your presentation OR your Weebly website.  Both of these are due at the end of next week.  At this point, you should have these items completed in your slideshow:
    • Title Slide
    • Biography
    • Article Analysis
    • Your Weebly Famous Figure page should be complete through #8
  • After Hour: Gossip column or Historical Fiction introduction and examples.  Select your preference and complete draft then add to your slideshow.
  • Exit Task:  Hit Turn In on the draft of your Historical Fiction or Gossip Column for Daily Completion Points.

Objective:  I can evaluate the specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is valid and the evidence is relevant and sufficient being on the watch out for false statements and fallacious reasoning (RI8).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your Chromebook and write your daily write. You do not need to log in to your Chromebook yet.
    • DW:  Read the objective for today.  What do you think we are going to do?  What is the meaning of fallacious based on the context of the objective?
      • Be ready to be called on--no volunteers today.
    • Review Article Analysis in your rubric--how much is it worth?
  • Take notes under your daily write on Source Types and CRAP
  • Go to Google Classroom and open your Famous Figure Biography Slideshow.
    • Skip to Article Analysis Slides
    • Open a new tab and Google your Famous Figure's name.  Look for another source that fits one of our terms for the day--NOT Wikipedia or Biography.com
    • Once you find an interesting source, begin to complete your Article Analysis directly into your slideshow
  • If you missed any of your biography questions that this answers, you may use it, BUT remember you must cite the source!
  • Exit Task:  Show me your Article Analysis slides when you are finished for today's Daily Completion Points.

  • Review what plagiarism is and how to avoid it--remember your plagiarism contract?  I still have it; if you plagiarize, your assignment earns a 0.
    • Remember how to use the Explore tool?  Try it out in our Famous Figure Biography assignment in Google Classroom with Wikipedia.
  • Add on Easy Bib and go over the directions for how to use and why you would instead of the Explore Tool.
  • Exit Ticket:  Complete one question for your famous figure and cite the source you use.

Objective:  I know the expectations for presenting information with supporting evidence to  my class about a famous figure whom I would like to nominate for one of our class awards with appropriate organization, development, substance, and style appropriate to our purpose, audience, and task (SL4).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your notebook (I know, been awhile!) and prepare for a Daily Write--remember there are already points in the gradebook for this, so you need to make sure to participate to keep them.
    • DW:  If you were to select one famous figure you look up to, who would it be and why?  Take your time to respond, this may be helpful later!
  • Share out 3 examples
    • What's coming--the end of the year: Daily Completion Points, Independent reading due June 1, Final Presentation!
  • For your final project you will apply a variety of tools and the knowledge you have learned throughout the year to honor another human in the world for their “best”
  • Using the provided template and your Weebly website, you will create a presentation to nominate a lovely human for one of the following awards (and class contest)!
    • Most Admired
    • Most Influential
    • Best Style
    • Best Classmate (this is a secret award)
  • Today, you will select the famous figure you want to nominate for one of these awards following these directions.
  • There are 10 lists posted around the classroom.  You must start with these lists; in a small group of 3 to go to the number assigned to you.
  • Look through the list--you may use your phone to look someone up if you want to know more, but you only have 2-3 min. at each, so if you find someone you are interested in, just jot their name on your list--remember each person will only be used once!  Your reasoning could determine whether or not you get your first choice.
  • Once you have looked at each list, go back to your desk and write your reasoning.
  • Exit Task:  Turn in your requests and reasons for nominations.
