Objective:  I can determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text (RI2).
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Sit in the groups of 6 assigned to you.
    • Open the envelope provided take one piece each; use the mood wheel and identify a mood with specific evidence from the picture to support your thinking
      • Share your mood and image with your group
    • Discuss how you think these images relate to each other and be prepared to explain yourself to the class.  
    • Read Tim Burton biography and then look back through this article and highlight who and what influenced Burton’s style. Complete the framed sentence.  
  • Exit Task:  Review your initial thinking from your group and explain how what you first noticed about Burton's style from looking at the pictures was revealed to you throughout the reading.

Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  From the prezi in your handout, think of your short story.  Did parts of your life influence your story or style?  How so?
    • Read the mini-bio of Edgar Allan Poe and underline experiences in his life that you think may have influenced his writing. Also circle any words you are unfamiliar with. 
    • What ideas do you expect to encounter in Poe’s writing now that you know some more information about his life?
    • Listen to "The Raven" and underline aspects of the poem that you think are influenced by his life.  
    • Watch The Simpsons version of The Raven and Think Pair Share about how the mood has changed from one version to the next.  
  • Exit Task:  What horror elements did you see while reading and watching?

Objective:   I know the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a variety of literature, and  can analyze the cumulative impact  on meaning and tone (like how the devices evoke a sense of time and place; how it sets a formal or informal tone) (RL4).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Organize your Guided Notes into your notebook and prepare to fill them in.
    • Take notes from Cinematic Techniques
    • View the original film clips and the horror version
      • How does the style changes change the film genre?
    • Make note of the Cinematic Techniques in your guided notes, using the Cheat Sheet to help understand the examples shown
  • Exit Task:  Think of one of your favorite films you have seen many times. Write down the title. Review the cheat sheet of Cinematic Techniques. Explain how your selected film uses 2-3 of the techniques by describing specific scenes to someone who has never seen the film before.  Try to use character names and your best figurative language to make the scenes come to life for the reader.

Objective:  I can read from two of my peers' websites, and I can complete a book review for one with the purpose of nominating student work for our very own Jabberwocky!
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Grab a Chromebook and go to www.literaturewithleonetti.com
  • Open the list of student websites
  • Read the website of the student assigned to you first
    • Give constructive criticism on one of their poems and their story
    • As you are reading, consider whether or not this piece should be published.
      • Write the title and author on the board for your favorite works!

  • Now, you may comment on a website of another peer of your choice 
    • Try to comment on the poem that was not commented on, but be genuine in your constructive criticism.  
  • Exit Task:  Review your own comments and on your notecard write the title of the poem or story you read (it can even be your own!) you like the most as well as how proud you are of your own website and why.

    • Review the directions to add your short story page to your website
    • Start to edit your website ONLY AFTER:
      • Go to Google Classroom and open your Final Short Story
      • Review the comments and the rubric
      • Make edits to your Short Story FIRST
        • Share your story with me via email if you would like to see your grade change based on your edits.
  • Exit Task: Your website SHOULD be done today.  If not, we will have a make up day tomorrow AFTER we retake the Kahoot! test.
