LA9 Daily Objective & Agenda

Objective:  Analyze the representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic mediums, including what is emphasized or absent in each treatment (e.g., Auden's "Musée des Beaux Arts" and Breughel's Landscape with the Fall of Icarus) (RL9-10.7).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  What is your favorite famous poem or painting you have ever read or seen?  Where did you first see it?  Why is your favorite?  
    • Have 2-3 students share out their answers
  • (Re)watch Icarus and finish discussion--complete self-assessment and turn in
  • Explain that the class is going on a scavenger hunt, and the clues are in the reading
  • Read Ovid’s Metamorphoses Book VIII Daedalus and Icarus as a class, noting the bolded words
  • After the reading, point out the pictures hanging around the room where you will find representations of the myth and in each painting are the clues.  
  • As they you around, annotate on the reading which painting contains which bolded words or phrases, some will be used more than once, but you need to find each word or phrase at least once.
  • Exit Task: If you finish early, show me for reflection question about the painting; hold on to your annotations for tomorrow's work.
