Objective:  I can relax and enjoy a film version of Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, or Pride and Prejudice considering the film in comparison to the novel I read to analyze multiple interpretations of a story (RL11-12.7).
Extension Available:
  • Review the Brief Overview of Lenses, select one with which to critique the film.
    • Then write an article following the same article template and rubric as those required for your magazine to earn up to 25 extra credit points.
    • The amount of points you earn will be based on how you do on the article; make sure you treat this like another assignment.
Deepening Assignment:  You may also use this time to work silently while viewing if you need time to prepare your deepening assignment.  These will not be accepted late as you have had all semester to work on it.

Objective:  I can analyze the novel I read, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, or Frankenstein, using the prompt given within a time limit in order to practice for the AP Literature Test (W11-12.4).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your essay folder, My Essential Literature, and notes for your novel.  Select one of the three prompts you have already seen in your Book Club:
    • 2013:  Bildungsroman (Coming-of-Age)
    • 2006:  Country Setting
    • 2016:  Deceptive Character
  • Once the bell rings, review the prompt and write your essay using any of the materials you have in your writing folder and your My Essential Lit. or questions (you cannot use the book or your phone).
  • Exit Task:  Put your essay and the prompt in the folder and back in your group folder with your My Essential Literature in the box.

Objective:  I can discuss my reaction to my choice of Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, or Pride and Prejudice and consider its characters (SL11-12.1).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Meet with your Book Club group
    • You have 10 min. to organize and bind your magazine; turn it in with your copy of the article rubrics in order for them to be scored.
      • If a group member did not bring their pieces, it is their responsibility to get them to the teacher--bind the magazine as is.  Remember: your score will be reflective of the work you did, not one someone else did not.
  • Review the 2016 Open Choice prompt and discuss it in relation to the characters in your book.  Come up with an opening sentence and thesis statement with three specific scenes that would fit the prompt.
    • Of the three prompts you have in your Book Club folder, which do you think best fits your book?  Which would you write about if you had to choose?
  • Discuss Book Questions (Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, or Pride and Prejudice) and answer on your own; thorough/thoughtful answers with textual reference including page numbers.
  • Add to My Essential Literature--you can use Coming-of-Age, Gothic, or Romanticism for your lens questions if you would like, or you can use Brief Overview of Lenses.
Exit Task:  If your Book Questions or My Essential Lit. are complete within the period, show them to the teacher for completion points.  Remember: You can use these when you write in our next class; if they are not done today, you can turn them in with your essay.
