Objective:  I can share evidence for my ideas about feminism and support them using relevant and reliable information while keeping an open mind and listening respectfully to others' opinions and ideas (SL11-12.1).
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task: Sit at your Socratic Seminar Packet and review our class feminism definitions from your notebook.  
    • Cross out any that you disagree with; highlight one that you think is the best basis for your understanding of feminism now.
    • Look at your perfect couples hanging around the room and think about them in contrast with the couples you have met in your readings.
  • Quickly, review expectations for inner and outer circle responsibilities--know your role and set up your notes
    • Review your stance from our last discussion and then write your stance today on the inner or outer circle (the page you have not completed in the packet)
  • Participate in Socratic Seminar following established norms
    • Complete your reflection and turn in your seminar packet
  • Although we are discussing feminism and what we have learned about it, when we go to write, you will select from one of the three prompts.
    • Follow along to each of the prompts and note key words in each
Exit Task:  Summarize your thinking for the day in your notebook has your definition of feminism changed?  Why or why not? Write the date of the prompt you prefer in your notebook and any initial thoughts you have around it.

Objective:   I can participate in a discussion (SL11-12.1) of The Awakening OR The Handmaid's Tale through the lens of Feminism (RL11-12.1).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:   You will get together with your Book Club, but sit with the group your completed the OPTICAL assignment with first.  
    • Review group scores on Getting to Theme and Claim, Cite, Clarify rubrics
      • What did we do well on?  What do we need to work on?
      • Remember to apply what you notice here to your lens questions and discussion!
  • Get together with your Book Club
    • Review who has yet to be recorder(s) and review whole class discussion questions 
  • Recorder(s) to get one Chromebook and sign in to Google Classroom (if your group has more than 3 members, 2 people can record in the same minutes today; be sure to put your names next to who took minutes for which question)
    • Remember:
      • Do not attempt to record the conversation verbatim--you too should be contributing, but what are the major points?
      • I should be able to read your notes as an answer to the question(s).
  • Exit Task:  Make sure to hit “Turn In” and add to your lens questions--remember to Claim, Cite, Clarify!  
    • Your feminist lens questions are due today; highlight the row that you think best exemplifies your ability to claim, cite, and clarify.  
    • Make sure to complete the Reflect on Learning by writing theme statements and how the text impacted your perspective (if you need to, look back at your initial responses to the chalk talk in your notebook and our class list of the feminism definitions)
    • Highlight which theme statement you think is best

Objective:   I can listen to A Doll's House and compare it to The Awakening  or The Handmaid's Tale through my selected lens (RL11-12.1) as well as discuss the major motifs that appear in both (SL11-12.1).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:   Get out annotated Multiple Choice and answer the next question.  Be prepared to be called on and give your reasoning for your answer.
  • Get out your whole class discussion questions and feminist lens questions and review those you have left
  • Finish Act III A Doll's House on audible (27 min.)
    • Answer lens questions
  • Review the discussion questions marking those of interest to you.
  • Begin discussion (5 pts./contribution)--If you are not verbally discussing, you need to address at least 5 of the questions being discussed in writing, and turn them in today after our discussion.

Objective:  I can analyze the impact of an artist's choices regarding how they develop and relate to elements of our readings (RL11-12.3).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:   Get out annotated Multiple Choice and answer the next question.  Be prepared to be called on and give your reasoning for your answer.
  • Choose a partner  or group of 3 (NOT YOUR BOOK CLUB); try to have both The Awakening and The Handmaid’s Tale represented in your group.   Review expectations for Group Work and self-assess for the top two rows.  
  • Review the directions for OPTICAL assignment on the paper copy provided for Andrea Kowch's The Cape as seen below and in the color copy provided to each group.  
    • Listen for when your teacher tells you to move onto the next section; do not move on until you are given instructions for what to do next.  
      • Go over directions for 1-4 (approx. 15 min.)
        • Ask teacher for assistance while you work
      • Go over directions for 5 (15 min.)
        • You will need to reference the archetypes   
      • Go over directions for 6 (10-15 min.)
        • You will need to use your feminist lens questions
          • Be sure to Claim, Cite, and Clarify!
      • Go over directions for 7
        • Review directions for Getting to Theme
    • This assignment is worth 25 assessment points--consider it like a test--it is worth the same amount as an essay and an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into The Awakening or The Handmaid's Tale and A Doll's House.  
    • You only need to turn in 1 paper copy/group--make sure all of your names are on it, and that you all agree this is your BEST work.  You will all receive the same score.
      • Be sure to include your Group Work Self-Assessment
  • Exit Task: ​For full credit, there should be thorough and thoughtful analysis.  You need to show thought and processing in your answers. ​

    • Review expectations for inner and outer circle responsibilities--know your role and set up your notes
      • Write your stance before we begin
    • Participate in Socratic Seminar following established norms
    • Complete your reflection and turn in your seminar packet
      • This will be returned for the second seminar after reading--make sure you are caught up on reading for our next class!
