Objective:  I can explore the options for review for the AP Test and select those which will be help me to prepare for the test or final based on my own needs as a student.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Sit with one other person you like to study with and get out your AP Literature notebooks.  Chat about how prepared you feel for the AP Literature test or final.
    • Review the post-test options and vote for your preference by typing your reasoning in the comment on Google Classroom.  
  • Review the options for review stations
  • Select 1-2 station(s) to complete today to earn at least 25 points of the 100 required
  • Exit Task:  Complete "Why did or didn't you select this review tool?" for two of the options. ​

Deepening Assignment Showcase!
  • Set up your Deepening Assignment in the appropriate location
  • Grab a Chromebook and complete the reflection
  • Peruse the projects--giving each a good look (make sure to read at least a paragraph/poem or two of anything written)
  • Select your favorite and take a selfie with it for our photo voting slideshow

You are invited to showcase your AP Deepening assignment on April 29th in our classroom. Please bring any project not already turned in (those already will be set up).  In this gallery setting you will be a critic looking to select the top 3 pieces to receive our class awards. Thank you for your commitment to deepening your knowledge of our course material!

Objective:  I can show a thorough understanding of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns through the lens of what it means to be cut off from "home".
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your My Essential Lit. for Kite Runner or Thousand Splendid Suns.  
    • 15-20 min. Complete the test for the book you read, Kite Runner or Thousand Splendid Suns
      • Turn in your My Essential Lit. with your test
  • Finish our whole class discussion about the two readings; remember you either need to participate three times OR answer thoroughly and thoughtfully 3 of the questions discussed in class showing you were engaged in the discussion by listening.
  • Exit Task:  Turn in discussion questions if you did not participate verbally.

Objective:  I can connect my cultural and historical understanding of Afghanistan and A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner to what is currently happening from Syria to Afghanistan by showing my understanding on a map of Asia.
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Create a group of 5 and get out your cultural and historical notes on Afghanistan as well as the handout for The History Channel:  The Taliban
    • In your groups, take 5 min. to review what we have learned about Afghanistan and its major players.  Be prepared to share one important insight you did not know before you came to this class.​
  • Afghanistan Update: April 22, 2018
  • In your groups, select one of the articles provided. Take 7-10 min. and read/annotate your article, highlighting and annotating on the map any places discussed.  
    • Annotate for ANY connections you  make between your historical or cultural notes in your notebook from class and your reading of A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner.  Be sure to take your time in reading, so that you can explain what you learned to your group.
  • Share out your article information with your group, making highlights/notes on your map to connect what we know to what is currently happening.  
  • Each group needs to share their insights for the class map (below)--continue to add notes to your own as we do.​
  • Exit Task:  Finish by individually writing a paragraph about the connections between the time we are reading about and today and what you are still wondering about.
  • Optional Assignment:  Research your question(s), read and annotate the information you find, write a paragraph summarizing how it answered your question(s), and turn in for up to 10 assessment points.

Objective:  I can consider A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner through one lens of Critical Theory, and share my perspective within a small discussion on themes that are relevant to both books. 
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Sit with your Book Club group--at least three people who are reading the same book as you, no more than 5, please.  
  • Share your response to the passage from the other book--what connections do you see between this book and your own? 
  • Review the Whole Class Discussion Questions and discuss; work on My Essential Lit. while you discuss
  • On the class posters (red=Kite; yellow=1000), add your most meaningful moment from the book with a quote or a picture and a description of why it was meaningful to you.  Put your initials next to your addition!  
  • OR Group Reading Quiz with coloring page
    • How much do YOU have to read to finish the book by next Wednesday?
  • Exit Task:  Complete one section of My Essential Literature--due April 24th

Objective:  I can read a passage from The Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns (the book I am not reading), and practice Answering the Prompt for the last time prior to the AP test May 8th, OR I can rewrite one of my previous essays to meet the same objective.  
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Get your writing folder and sit where you are comfortable to write; review the comments on your last two essays, poetry and Book Club. 
    • Decide if you want to rewrite an essay OR complete passage from our current readings.
    • If you are rewriting, get a Chromebook.  
  • Find the essay you are going to rewrite OR take the passage from the book you are NOT reading.
    • Remember that a passage prompt is the same as a poem or open choice prompt 
  • Read the prompt and passage then use your explicit analysis template to organize your ideas and write YOUR LAST essay for this class if you are taking the AP Test!
  • Exit Task:  Put your essay and the prompt in your folder and put back in the group pocket.  ​​​

60 min. Objective:  I can consider A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner as I discover more about The History of Afghanistan and The Taliban. 
Agenda:
  • Entry Task: Pick up the handout for A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner  and sit with a small group reading the same book as you.
    • ​5-10 min. in your small groups, review the quotes and explain the scenario of what is happening in the book.
  • Watch The History Channel:  The Taliban (44:09) and complete the handout
  • 5-10 min. Review what you learned from the viewing in your small groups and complete the New Connections before turning it in.
30 min. Objective:  I can consider A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner through one lens of Critical Theory, and share my perspective within a small and larger class discussion on themes that are relevant to both books. 
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Review your selected lens questions 
    • Answer 1 lens question on your My Essential Lit. in a thorough paragraph  incorporating evidence from the reading

Objective:  I can utilize the class period to deepen my knowledge of a topic we have covered in AP Literature that is of particular interest to me.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get a Chromebook and sit where you can work well independently--if you want to have another day like this please use the given time for MY ASSIGNMENT--this is not an opportunity to get caught up on homework for other classes.  Thank you for respecting that.  
  • Review the AP Deepening Assignments in Google Classroom if you have not selected one yet.  
    • There are separate assignments if you are selecting to work on The World Relief Welcome Kit or Journal Review and Setup; otherwise, just keep working on your selection.
  • Remember that Deepening Assignments are due April 29th--BEFORE the AP Test.​

Objective:  I can discuss A Thousand Splendid Suns  or The Kite Runner through the assigned chapters and how our presentation from World Relief has impacted our view of reading books such as these.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  MC--Be prepared to share if called on!
  • Thousand Splendid Suns Test 2  or Kite Runner Test 2
    • ​While you wait for others to be finished, work on your My Essential Lit. and review your Whole Class Discussion Questions.
      • World Relief Welcome Kit--Would we like to do this as a class?  Who will bring what?
  • Exit Task:  Continue our whole class discussion from our reading.  Check in on reading dates for next week on the board.
