Objective:  I can review how to write a high-scoring essay for the AP test by comparing the ideas presented to those I read about in A Thousand Splendid Suns or The Kite Runner (W11-12.4)
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Review your score on the test yesterday.  How did you do on the mini-essay portion?
  • Re-read the prompt and then read the example essay that is assigned to you:
    • If you read The Kite Runner please read the high-scoring essay from 2010 about Things Fall Apart
    • If you read A Thousand Splendid Suns please read the high-scoring essay from 2010 Form B about Atonement
  • As you read, make note of how the ideas presented in the essay could be manipulated to fit the book you read
  • After you read, go to the last page of the essay and read the score the essay and received and why.
    • Make note of key words the scorer used to describe the essay
    • Now, take a look at your test again
    • If you were to develop this essay fully, do you think similar wording could be used to describe your essay?
  • Exit Task:  At this point in the year, you should have a pretty good idea of how you do with your writing.  Go back to your passage essay you wrote last week. What do you still need to work on?
