Objective:  I can read Act V; scene 1 through the psychoanalytical or archetypal lens and put characters from Hamlet "on the couch" to explore character motivations.
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  MC#38; If you didn't yesterday, tape your evidence from the film to the most apt Chalk Talk poster
  • Listen Act V, scene I (15:01 min.)
    • Before reading:  What did Claudius and Laertes plan?  What did Claudius tell Gertrude at the end of Act IV?
    • Consider:  Which character(s) are of most interest to you?  What do you think their motivations are?
  • After reading:  With a partner, analyze characters by putting them "on the couch" and begin your dialogue with him/her. 
  • Exit Task:  Turn in your "On the Couch" Activity with both you and your partner's name on it.  Add questions to your Socratic seminar ticket to prepare for final discussion.

Objective:  I can watch Hamlet Act II-Act IV through the psychoanalytical or archetypal lens and make meaning of plot points I may have missed through the reading.
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Get out copy of Hamlet, lens questions, and My Essential Lit. Draw from your lens the evidence you will be looking for as you watch.
  • Watch Act II-Act IV, scene 6-7 (2nd start 39:05; 3rd start 35 through 1:43:08); if you are absent or electing not to watch, use a Chromebook for this.
    • Before viewing:  What does Claudius plan with Laertes?
    • During viewing:  Complete your evidence slip that you selected for your lens. 
      • Take additional notes on lens questions, using play to find quotes that support your thinking.
      • Add questions to your Socratic seminar ticket to prepare for final discussion.
  • After viewing:  Tape your evidence to the Chalk Talk poster it best fits.  Begin to make meaning of your notes on your lens questions and start answering the questions on your My Ess. Lit.  There is only one Act left!

Objective:  I can work with my Book Club group for the last time to develop a cohesive plan of our group outline and individual plot points showing the meaning of the work as a whole through the AP prompt we selected.  
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Get out your triangle and your book club folder
    • Review steps for Book Club
    • Put plot points together
    • Turn in plot triangles as shown in steps
    • Turn in My Essential Lit.  
  • Exit Task:  Make sure your folder is organized as explained in the directions and turn in to me.

Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Multiple Choice #36

    • Before reading:  Where does Hamlet tell Claudius Polonius is? What does Claudius plan for Hamlet's arrival in England?  What's wrong with Ophelia?

​Objective:  I can read Act III, scene 4 through the psychoanalytical or archetypal lens and share my ideas in a Socratic Seminar to deepen our understanding of Hamlet. 
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Multiple Choice 34;  Sit in outer or inner circle as assigned yesterday.
    • Listen Act III, scene 4 (12:34 min.)
    • Before reading:  How does Hamlet and Ophelia's relationship seem?
      • What does Hamlet plan to do about Claudius?
      • What are Polonius and Gertrude planning?
    • After reading:    Review inner and outer circle expectations. Discuss/take notes depending on your role.  
    • Questions to consider if conversation falters:
      • ​Does/did Hamlet love Ophelia?
      • Is Hamlet crazy?
        • ​Who thinks so? Why? 
        • What does he say himself?
        • How does he behave towards different individuals?
      • ​Should Hamlet take revenge?  Why or why not?
  • Exit Task:  Review and assess your participation and turn in your Socratic Seminar packet last 5-10 min.

    • Before reading:  What does Hamlet think of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in Act II?  What is Hamlet planning with the players?
  • After reading:  Meet with 3 o'clock partner and complete Socratic Seminar entry ticket.  Decide between you and partner who will be inner/outer circle tomorrow.

Objective:  We can discuss the ending of our Book Club Book and determine our MOWAW based on the prompt we selected last week, determining the best plot points from the beginning, middle, and end to support our analysis.
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out your Book Club folder and sit with your group
  • Review your outline thus far--this needs to LOOK LIKE THE OUTLINE--please make sure you are numbering/lettering accordingly (NOT PARAGRAPH FORM)
    • Utilize Book Club Essay Template as your FINAL DRAFT.  You will need to include your outline as well; for now, this is your GUIDE to where you will end up.
    • After you have determined your three major plot points, assign them to individual.  This section is your responsibility to complete and what YOU will be scored on.  You MUST write it in the triangle provided and come to class with it next Friday.
  • Exit Task:  Make sure you have a copy or picture of your MOWAW and Thesis Statement as well as a thorough understanding of the plot point you are writing about.

Objective:  I can watch Act I-II of Hamlet and explain whether or not my interpretation of the play changes based on the viewing to determine whether or not it would be valuable to continue to view the film.
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  MC#33-34 (turn in MC packet)
  • Get out your My Essential Lit. and complete 6 take-aways or questions you have for Hamlet thus far in the Hamlet vs. Hamlet chart.
    • Watch Act I of Hamlet (49:08); take notes of any clarifications or answers you see from the film.
  • Exit Task: ​After you watch the film, in the bottom box, explain how or if your interpretation has changed or if you questions have been clarified.  Be sure to address whether or not watching the film was a valuable or necessary experience for you as a learner as this will determine whether or not we continue to take time to watch the film version of the play.

Objective:  I can follow along to Act II; Scene II of Hamlet and participate in a silent discussion of the lens elements we have identified thus far
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Pick up a copy of Hamlet on your way to your seat; MC #32
  • Review what happened in Act II: Scene I by reviewing your My Essential Lit. characters and exposition.
  • Follow along to Act II; Scene II
    • Review your lens questions add notes to your handout on selected Archetypal or Psychoanalytical Questions including quotations or page numbers that are significant to answering a question.  Do not write an answer on your My Essential Lit. page yet.
  • See the discussion self-assess rubric for the Chalk Talk
  • Participate in the Chalk Talk by giving thorough and thoughtful answers to the questions related to your lens 
  • Take 10 min to read and answer one question-without talking
    • ​Take 5 min. to read and respond to someone's answer to another question related to YOUR lens.
  • Repeat the process until you have answered at least 2 of your questions and responded to the other 2.  
  • Exit Task:  Review your rubric and self-assess on how you did during the Chalk Talk; complete the bottom 3 questions.  Hold on to this until we do our Socratic Seminar next week.
