Objective:  I can honor each person's culminating work by giving them my respect and listening to their reading their short story or poem.  
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Take a roster and write your name on it; be prepared to present when you are called on.
    • Review the directions on the roster provided
    • Follow along to the stories/poems, rate on your roster
Exit Task:  At the end of the period, make note of your favorite--you will choose one winner for each category after presentations.

Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Grab a Chromebook
    • Use Chromebook to finalize anthology
      • Don’t forget to write your conclusion!
    • Please ask for feedback if you have questions--remember this is the assignment that will maintain your grade.   
      • ​Please print an extra copy of your story or poem, so I can make copies for the class to follow along.
Exit Task:  Due at the end of the period. Can't wait to see your final project and presentations!

Objective:  Utilize the Chromebooks today to finalize your anthology.
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:   Grab a Chromebook
    • 10 min. finish EdPuzzle
    • Look at your grade on Skyward.  What do you notice?
      • ​Review your goal grade for the semester on your note card.
      • Answer:  What grade could you have if you earned a 100% on your anthology and sharing? 
      • Why would earning this grade to you matter? 
      • Consider what your goal grade was as well as how this would impact you as a student in the future (think GPA/ college admissions, etc.)
    • Review expectations for final anthology and choose your favorite work to share with the class.  
    • Make edits to the work you want to share first, then work to perfect the other works you have done.
    • Your anthology will be due at the end of the period Tuesday; you will share during block period on Thursday.  
Exit Task:  Make sure you have given me a printed copy of the work you want to share with the class.

Seniors Share Favorite Poem or Story with class; Everyone:
Objective:  I can evaluate a speaker's point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence and rhetoric, assessing the stance, premises, links among ideas, word choice, points of emphasis, and tone used (SL11-12.3).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task: Grab your Chromebook and login to Google Classroom.  Then, get out your journal and jot down the names of people who you miss for a variety of reasons.  Feel free to incorporate specifics about each person in order to utilize some of these details later.
  • In Google Classroom open the Edpuzzle (if you have headphones, you will want to get them out)
    • Follow along to the TED Talk Everything you Need to Write a Poem and Save a life (18 min.)
    • As you watch, the video will pause where you need to answer a question.  
    • In some cases, you will need to answer both on the computer and in your journal.
      • Although the video is 18 min., we will work through it independently for about 30 min., at least enough time so everyone can complete the questions/steps throughout.  
    • If you get done first, feel free to go through the steps with another of the people you wrote about in your entry task.
  • When everyone is finished, select a partner you can work well with in order to complete an assessment of your understanding of the speech.  
    • You may continue to utilize your Chromebook to review the speech as you work together to answer the questions in the Speech Evaluation.
    • After we review the steps together, use the rest of the time to complete the evaluation thoroughly and thoughtfully.  You may turn in one paper for both of you, but make sure both of your names are on it!
  • Exit Task:  Turn in your Speech Evaluation.

Seniors Anthology Due
Objective:  Utilize the Chromebooks today to finalize your anthology.

Juniors Japanese Poetry
Objective: I can review the definitions of concision and juxtaposition (L11-12.4) in order to utilize them in creating my own haiku, senryu, and tanka (W11-12.4).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task: What type of poem is the one shown below by Richard Wright?  If you know, how can you tell? If you don’t know, what can you identify about this form?
    • Whitecaps on the bay:
      A broken signboard banging
      In the April wind.
  • Follow along to the slideshow, jotting down important points in your journal as we go.  
  • After the slideshow review the three types of poetry, in the handout  
  • Exit Task:  Write your own haiku, senryu, and tanka then reflect on your experience using these forms of poetry.

Seniors Anthology

    • Use Chromebook to finalize anthology and choose your favorite work to share with the class.

Juniors Historical Fiction
Objective:  I can learn more about and write about a famous figure who is inspirational to me in order to make him/her seem inspirational to others.
Agenda:  
  • Entry Task:  Select a "profession" listed on the board by tallying which one you are most interested in learning about.
    • Listen to the story about a woman in the profession you selected from Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls
    • Choose a historical figure (or two if you are undecided) from the list provided.
    • Look up the figure(s) in Wikipedia or other online resources.
    • Read a little about your choice(s) to ensure (s)he is a person of interest for you.  If you were undecided, you need to make a choice now.
    • Answer the following questions about your figure:
      1. Who is (s)he?
      2. What did (s)he do that was of note?
      3. When did this occur?
      4. Where did this occur?
      5. Why did this occur?
    • Choose one of the following sentence beginnings below, and complete the sentence for your figure.
      1. The thing that I regret most about my life is . . .
      2. If I could accomplish one more thing, I would . . .
      3. The accomplishment that I am proudest of is . . .
      4. If I could live anywhere in the world, I would choose . . .
      5. The saddest moment in life was when . . .
      6. My favorite childhood memory is . . .
      7. The thing that scares me the most is . . .
    • Compose a short story in first-person, speaking as the historical figure where you explain the figure's wish, dream, or fear.
    • If you select to complete this story it should include at least 1 fact about the who, what, when, where, and why you answered above.  
    • Exit Task:  Share who your figure was with the class and one new fact you learned about him/her.
