Objective: I can, by the end of grade 11, read and comprehend literary nonfiction understanding that I am just starting the process and am working toward being able to read informational text at or above grade-level (RI11-12.10). Agenda:
Entry Task: Get out the text that you brought to class (or the one you borrowed) and start to generate a list of topic ideas. This can include anything from the type of reading it is to the content or even a reference within the content.
Review ideas for topics:
Genre (rap, poetry, dystopia) or content (dinosaurs, depression, self-esteem)
Find a full-text article that looks interesting (and isn’t too long—maybe three to five pages)
Search online databases, magazines, newspapers, etc. to find one, print it, link it in the digital handout, carefully read it, and reflect on your reading process using the handout.
Exit Task: Now that you have carefully read your article, take time to summarize your article and its relationship to your defined topic using the outline on your handout.
