Objective:  I can, by the end of grade 11, read and comprehend literary nonfiction understanding that I am just starting the process and am working toward being able to read informational text at  or above grade-level (RI11-12.10).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  Get out the text that you brought to class (or the one you borrowed) and start to generate a list of topic ideas.  This can include anything from the type of reading it is to the content or even a reference within the content.
  • Review ideas for topics:
    • Genre (rap, poetry, dystopia) or content (dinosaurs, depression, self-esteem)
  • Find a full-text article that looks interesting (and isn’t too long—maybe three to five pages)
  • Search online databases, magazines, newspapers, etc. to find one, print it, link it in the digital handout, carefully read it, and reflect on your reading process using the handout.
  • Exit Task:  Now that you have carefully read your article, take time to summarize your article and its relationship to your defined topic using the outline on your handout.
