Objective: I can analyze how an author's choices contribute to its overall structure and meaning as well as its aesthetic impact by rereading or reading another of one of my favorite author’s books (RL11-12.5).
Agenda:

Entry Task: Get out your favorite read selected and Favorite Author Brochure ; get your Chromebook for the end of the period.
25 min. Independent Reading
- Complete two sections of Favorite Author Brochure like meaningful moments, characters, and/or big ideas
Get out directions for Letters About Literature
- Watch video about letter format
- Take notes on how to format your letter and jot down ideas about what you will include in your notebook.
Log in to Google Classroom and open the Letters About Literature template and begin to complete
Exit Task: How much do you need to read on your own? We will have 25 min. of in-class reading time for 1 more Friday.

Objective: I can use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update individual writing products in response to ongoing feedback in order to create a final “About Me” project that incorporates both required components as well as personally selected items (RL11-12.6).
Agenda:

Entry Task: Get out your file folder as well as About Me Portfolio directions. You will also need your Chromebook.
Fold your construction paper in ½ horizontally (hot dog) and place your open file folder inside of it
- Now, log in to Google Classroom and open your returned “Where I’m From”. Before printing, make any edits suggested.
- Don’t forget to add a picture!
- Print your poem and put it in the inside, left pocket of your folder.
Type your “What’s in a Name,” “Telling Tales,” or “A Day in the Life”
Exit Task: Turn in your favorite of the three for feedback in Google Classroom

Objective: I can use a variety of techniques to sequence events so that they build on one another to create a coherent whole and build toward a particular tone and outcome (W11-12.3c).
Agenda:

Entry Task: Review your Biography Interview--look at your career, reason for fame, and later life/old age. Highlight any ideas there you would like to further explore.
Review Point of View from prezi
Use the plot diagram to outline a story about your future self told from the third person
- Write about a part of your life as if a passage from a novel
- Exaggerate, elaborate, and remember “Fiction is the truth inside the lie.”
- Put yourself in your first day on a college campus
- Maybe you just got your first job
- You’re famous!
No matter where you take it, remember to use (s)he in order to give the reader a view of a A Day in the Life of the future you.

Exit Task: If you are invested in your story, begin to write it out in your journal--this is one of your options for your About Me Portfolio!

Entry Task: Review your Biography Interview--look at your family members--do you have a storyteller among them? Are there stories that are retold over and over? Jot down a few ideas about stories that are familiar to you.
Take notes on plot definition from prezi
Use the plot diagram to outline a family story that has been told and retold.
- Those stories told during the holidays
- Legends of infamous ancestors
- Great Grandpa’s war stories
- Your family’s immigration history
- Embarrassing stories of you as a kid
- Feel free to embellish--don’t have a favorite story? Write the one you wish you did!

Exit Task: If you are invested in your story, begin to write it out in your journal--this is one of your options for your About Me Portfolio!

Entry Task: With a neighbor, discuss: What is the difference between attitude and mood?
- Share out ideas for each
Review our definitions so far from the prezi and take notes on attitude and mood
- Cut and paste your own tone wheel into your notebook
Follow along to Sandra Cisneros’ “My Name” underlining any word choice that stands out to you
Using the wheel, identify which mood comes across to you
Annotate what is done in each paragraph by discussing what you underlined
- Answer: Do you think the author’s attitude is different that your mood? Why or why not?
Write your own version of “My Name” using the sequence of events identified in the paragraphs so they build on one another to create a coherent whole.
- You may use the baby name book if you need to look up your name
Exit Task: What is your intended attitude? Trade with a partner and have them tell you the mood that comes across.

Entry Task: Pick up a file folder and your selected color of paper as well as any other art supplies you usually like to use. You will also need your Chromebook for later in the class.
Fold your construction paper in ½ horizontally (hot dog) and place your open file folder inside of it
- Gently close the file folder, making sure to crease the fold on the construction paper, so it lines up along the outer edges of your folder
- Staple your construction paper as close to the edge as possible on both sides
This is where your finalized pieces will be included. To begin, put your Biographical Interview in the inside, right pocket.
Now, log in to Google Classroom and open your returned personal narrative. Before printing, make any edits suggested. Print your personal narrative and put it in the inside, left pocket of your folder.
Type your “Where I’m From” poem and turn in to Google Classroom for feedback--do not print yet, but remember you can submit it to iamfromproject@gmail.com if you are particularly proud of it!
Exit Task: If you have extra time, you may begin to decorate your folder--it should reflect you and your style, so add any details you like! There will be more required components as we continue through the unit.

Agenda:

Entry Task: Look back at your Biography Interview in particular your favorite childhood memory and generate more ideas about it in your notebook; if you didn’t share your favorite, write it down now in your notebook.
- Turn and share your favorite childhood memory with a neighbor
Copy the definition of a Bio Poem in your notebook
Follow along to "Where I'm From" by George Ella Lyon on our first read
- On your second read, annotate for how the poem begins and ends as well as its overall structure
  - What do you notice?
  - What is aesthetic?
- Share out our findings
Utilize the I Am From template to write your own version of the poem.
Watch the I Am From video to see how eight-year-old Sage made the poem her own
- Write your own by filling in the template

Entry Task: Look up the word aesthetic on your phone with a neighbor and explain what it means in the context of the objective today.
- Be prepared to share when called on
Read the introduction 15 Essay-Length Short Memoirs to Read Online on Your Lunch Break by Emily Polson
- Note the definition and characteristics provided in the Memoir Slideshow
- Look carefully at each option provided in the slideshow and read the memoir you are most interested in reading.

Entry Task: Reread your introduction from your anthology, paying close attention to what you listed as what you like to read. Did you list a favorite author or a favorite book? If no, who would you select? Anything goes: fiction, nonfiction, short story, poem, essay, or speech.
