Objective:  I can review the definitions of poetic devices in order to begin to identify and utilize them in my reading and writing (L11-12.4).
Agenda:
  • Entry Task:  In your life, when and where do you typically seek out poetry or is it read?  Why do you think so?
  • Share out ideas--consider: poetry is usually something that is read for important events, weddings, funerals; they are what greeting cards are made of--why?
    • The language of poetry is best suited to the big emotions we feel, those times when we “don’t know what to say.”  It is through the figurative language of poetry that we connect our emotions and help us experience a “minute” of what it is like to be outside of ourselves.
  • Throughout our poetry work we will define, identify, and utilize poetic devices in order to better connect throughout our own reading and writing.
    • Copy and paste the Quizlet list into your journal and review the terms; you can practice on your own using the Quizlet set online
    • Play Kahoot! to review terms
  • Exit Task:  Poetic Devices pretest; your score will be replaced each time we retake the test
